Nowadays, cancer has become number one of the top 10 leading causes of death. To promote "early detection, early treatment," the Health Promotion Administration of the Ministry of Health and Welfare provides free and subsidized screening for the five major cancers: breast, cervical, colorectal, oral and lung. As long as meeting the requirements, people can bring their National Health Insurance card with them and come to the hospital for examination.
Breast cancer screening
Mammography is a low-dose X-ray that can detect a variety of breast tumors, cysts and other lesions, helping to detect breast cancer early and reduce its mortality.
Eligibility
- Women aged 40 to 75 years old can receive a free mammography every 2 years.
- People are requested to make an appointment at (04) 22052121 ext. 14821 or 14823
Cervical cancer screening
The Pap test is the best way to prevent cervical cancer. It can show the possibility of infection, inflammation, abnormal cells or cancer in the cervix.
The test is performed by collecting from the vagina the secretions containing exfoliated cells from the cervix. After the smears are stained, suspicious cancer cells can be detected through a microscope. Once the lesion is found, a colposcopy and cervical biopsy can be performed to establish the diagnosis.
Eligibility
- Women over 30 years of age can receive a free Pap smear examination every year.
- Women aged 25 to 29 years old can receive a free Pap smear examination every 3 years.
Colorectal cancer screening
Colorectal fecal occult blood screening is a method to measure occult blood reaction in stool. Occult blood refers to the extremely low amount of intestinal bleeding that is attached to the stool and is usually undetectable to the naked eye. Screening for fecal occult blood may be the first step in the prevention of colorectal cancer.
People can pick up a feces-collecting stick, taking it home for collection, and then take it back to the hospital for testing.
Eligibility
- People aged 45 to 70 can receive a free examination of fecal occult blood every 2 years.
- People aged 40 to 44 years old, whose relatives within degrees of kinship(parents, brothers & sisters or child) have had colon cancer, can receive a free mammography every 2 years.
Oral cancer screening
The occurrence of oral cancer is closely linked to cellular degeneration caused by long-term oral stimulation, especially smoking, betel nut chewing and drinking that are the main risk factors for oral cancer.
Oral cancer screening is a method by which specialists can detect precancerous lesions as early as possible through consultation, visual examination and palpation.
To detect oral cancer and precancerous lesions at an early stage, oral mucosa examination should be conducted regularly, while unhealthy habits such as smoking, betel nut chewing and drinking alcohol should be given up, so as to stay away from the threat of oral cancer.
Eligibility
- People over the age of 30 who currently smoke or chew betel nut (including those who have quit betel nut) can receive a free oral mucosal examination every 2 years.
- Indigenous people aged 18 to 29 years old who chew betel nut (including those who have quit betel nut) can receive a free oral mucosal examination every 2 years.
Lung cancer screening
Low-dose chest computed tomography(LDCT) which can detect lung nodules smaller than 1 cm, is currently a lung cancer screening tool with international evidence, helping to detect lung cancer early and reduce its mortality.
Eligibility
- Men aged 45 to 75 years old and Women aged 40 to 75 years old, whose relatives within one degrees of kinship(parents, brothers & sisters or child) have had lung cancer, can receive a free LDCT every 2 years. If you still smoke, you should agree to receive smoking cessation services.
- People aged 50 to 74 years old with a smoking history of more than 20 pack-years, still smoking or quitting smoking less than 15 years ago, can receive a free LDCT every 2 years. If you still smoke, you should agree to receive smoking cessation services
