Smart Hospital Initiative of the Year-Healthcare Asia Awards 2023

CMUH has earned global recognition for its successful digital transformation by winning the "Smart Hospital Initiative of the Year" award in Singapore

The International Medicine National Team has helped the government facilitate the New Southbound Policy and raised awareness of Taiwan on the international stage

China Medical University Hospital's (CMUH) digital transformation to a smart hospital has generated more great news: after entering the top three of global smart hospitals based on the Digital Health Indicator (DHI) conducted by the US HIMSS this year, CMUH won the "Smart Hospital Initiative of the Year" award in the Healthcare Asia Awards 2023 in Singapore, and was the only winning hospital from Taiwan, once again putting Taiwan on the international stage in the field of medicine. This achievement also shines a light on the New Southbound Policy which has been heavily promoted by the government.

Promoting our international brand image in international competitions – Elevating the ranking of Taiwanese hospitals to among the best in the world

CMUH Superintendent Der-Yang Cho said that international awareness of Taiwanese medicine is on the rise, but there is more to do. Taiwan's underestimated medical capabilities are a long-term issue as well. Therefore, smart digital transformation of the hospital and expediting internationalization are being aggressively promoted. One of the key strategies is to attend international competitions and win awards to put Taiwan in the limelight and raise international  awareness of our brand. In 2019, CMUH won two awards –  "Specialist International Patient Center" and "Best Marketing Initiative" – in the International Medical Travel Journal (IMTJ) international medicine awards held in the UK. In 2020, CMUH earned a "Highly Commended" again for its Specialist International Patient Center and set the bar for hospitals in Taiwan. This year, the hospital was recognized with a third-party certified international honor from Singapore in a vigorous competition featuring many famous hospitals around the world. By continuing this trend of winning awards, the overall ranking of Taiwanese hospitals among the best in the world increases and interest is generated in the Taiwan brand. This has a profound impact on Taiwanese medicine and allows Taiwan to connect with the international community.

Both innovative smart clinical applications, the Intelligent Anti-Microbial System (iAMS) and AI-assisted diagnosis system for remote myocardial infarction, won recognition from the judges

Healthcare Asia reported that CMUH develops and uses professional innovative AI technology in the fields of cardiovascular and antibacterial medicine and earned recognition as the "Smart Hospital of the Year". The AI-assisted diagnosis system for remote myocardial infarction uses top AI technology to identify abnormal heart rates to improve clinical outcomes. The Intelligent Anti-Microbial System (iAMS) leverages AI technology to assist physicians in choosing the correct antibiotics for the strain on infection to avoid unnecessary administration of antibiotics and enhance microbial infection control.

Standing on the indicative international medicine stage, Taiwan can be seen by the world through international exposure

Ambassador Francis Kuo-Hsin Liang, Taipei Representative Office in the Republic of Singapore, highlighted that Singapore is a well-developed market for international medicine. It's also a city with a lot of global attention for major international events. The Ambassador is thrilled to see CMUH win a major award as a smart hospital in Singapore, and to earn recognition for Taiwanese smart hospitals that have met international standards, showing that Taiwan is ready to connect with the world. Taiwan has also generated international attention to the New Southbound Policy, focusing on specific countries and international society, as a great opportunity for Taiwan to be seen by the world again.

Shaping the international brand image of Taiwan to achieve the goals of New Southbound Policy in facilitating the medical health industry through "medicine-driven business"

Chief Li-Ling Liu, Technical Superintendent of the Office of International Cooperation, Ministry of Health and Welfare, said that shaping the Taiwan brand is a major focus in the government's promotion of medical health projects under the New Southbound Policy. The goal of medical health industry co-promotion under the New Southbound Policy can be achieved through the grouping strategy,. The Ministry of Health and Welfare is happy to see the hospital's ten centers spread across seven countries facilitating not only medical collaboration and industrial development in existing territories, but also expanding its influence to other New Southbound Policy targeted countries. Winning a major award in Singapore is a great plus for building Taiwanese international medicine brand image and awareness in driving the "medicine-driven business" goal.

The Healthcare Asia Awards attract many famous hospitals from Southeast Asia and Singapore every year. From 2018 to 2022, the winning hospitals include Alexandra Hospital in Singapore, Bumrungrad International Hospital in Thailand, The Medical City in the Philippines, and the global Gleneagles Hospital. HIMSS, the powerful global consulting institute for digital health strategies, is famous for its high standards in evaluating the Digital Health Transformation of hospitals. Top medical centers, including the Mayo Clinic, The University of Texas M. D. Anderson Cancer, the Cleveland Clinic, and Stanford Health Care are all medical organization members of the HIMSS.

CMUH won the major "Smart Hospital Initiative of the Year" award this year in the Healthcare Asia Awards 2023 in Singapore. On such an important, global stage, CMUH has showcased its smart hospital image on par with international standards, earning Taiwan the reputation of a smart international hospital brand.
