SRC Accredited “Center of Excellence in Metabolic & Bariatric Surgery”, with All-Around Global Level, Safe Weight Loss & Excellent Care

Since the establishment of Body Science & Metabolic Disorders International Medical Center of China Medical University Hospital in April 2016, nearly 400 cases of bariatric and diabetes surgery have been performed and there were more than 30 cases were international patients among them.  In this June, under the leadership of director Huang Chih-Kun, the Center of Excellence in Metabolic & Bariatric Surgery has been certified by Surgical Review Corporation (SRC) and became an international accredited center of metabolic and bariatric surgery in central Taiwan.

SRC is a leader of international health care institution and surgeon accreditation, dedicates in developing and administering best-in-class accreditation programs for surgeons and hospitals. SRC recognition represents that the surgeons and institution of Body Science & Metabolic Disorders International Medical Center of China Medical University Hospital have the best international class on the mission and ability of caring. The certainty of the safety and excellent care for patients receiving bariatric surgery is an important indicator for visiting patients and serves as a reviewing criterion of international insurance company for patients receiving medical treatment; it is very important for international medical development.

Huang Chih-Kun indicated that the SRC accreditation is extremely rigorous, all the reviewing items, including surgeries, facilities, and care methods, shall conform to international standards. The medical team of the center integrates various resources including internal and surgical departments, family medicine, psychiatry, clinical psychologists, nutritionists, exercise therapists, etc. to comprehensively treat the obesity.  All facilities of the center have the loading symbol, and the center has prepared customized large sized surgical gowns, walking aids, and wheelchairs specifically for obese patients for providing thoughtful medical services.

The 35-year-old Mr. Lu is 171 cm tall and his weight has increased during his studying and growing period.  He can always eat 2 to 3 serving sized food for one meal, snacks and desserts. He had tried many ways to lose weight, like moderate eating, purchasing weight loss meal replacement from a direct selling agent, and even the weight loss pills; thought he had once lost weight for 20 kg, later he suffered yo-yo effect of weight loss and gained heavier weight than before. His weight had once reached to 114 kg with BMI up to 39, moreover, he was diagnosed with diabetes and with poor effectiveness to the drug treatment. His body weight was still high to 102 kg with BMI 35 the year before last year. When he heard from friends and got introduced to Body Science & Metabolic Disorders International Medical Center of China Medical University Hospital to receive Dean Huang Chih-Kun’s treatment of stomach reduction surgery, now, a year after the operation, his body weight maintains in 69 kg with ideal BMI of 24 and he has restored the longed for healthy life.

The medical team led by Dean Huang Chih-Kun has performed operations for more than 4,000 cases. Since the one more year establishment of Body Science & Metabolic Disorders International Medical Center of China Medical University Hospital, the center has helped hundreds of patients lose weight and regain their health.  International patients were from Singapore, Macau, Hong Kong, Philippines, China, Pakistan and other countries. At present, the center is an international center in Asia with integrated metabolic and body shape fields.  Through the development of the center, it helps more obese patients to achieve an ideally healthy new life.
