Purpose

To diagnose gestational diabetes in pregnant women.

Examination Procedures

1. Between the 24th week and 28th week of pregnancy, fast for at least 8 hours and draw the first fasting plasma glucose at the examination center. It is recommended to start fasting after 11 pm the night before (you can drink some water), and you will reach the 8-hour fasting standard by 7 am in the morning.
2. After checking the 1^st fasting plasma glucose, finish the sugar water prepared from 75g glucose powder in 10 minutes.
3. Take the 2^nd blood draw 1 hour after finishing the sugar water.
4. Take the 3^rd blood draw in another hour.
5. You can only eat after completing the three blood draws. If you feel like throwing up or feel uncomfortable while waiting, the pregnant woman is suggested to gargle the mouth or have some sips of water (no more than 50 c.c.).
6. This examination requires three blood draws in the internal of 1 hour in between. The entire process takes about 2-3 hours to complete.

Preparation of 75g Glucose Powder

1. Preparation Ingredients: ①1 pack of 75g glucose powder ②300c.c. cup ③ Stirrer④1/4 lemon	2. Cut open the glucose power pack and pour it into the 300c.c. cup.
3. Add lukewarm water to 300c.c. and stir to completely dissolve the glucose powder. The sugar water will become transparent.	4. Add 1/4 lemon of lemonade to ease the sweetness for better taste.

Tips for easing the sweetness of sugar water.

1. You can the lemonade of 1/4 lemon or brew the lukewarm and dissolved sugar water with sugar-free tea bags, sugar-free black tea, or green tea. You can dilute the solution up to 300 c.c.
2. Refrigerate the prepared sugar water. Cold sugar water will not taste as sweet.
3. Use a long straw to drink the sugar water, so it will go into your throat directly to prevent tasting the sugar water. 

Notes

1. Please keep normal diet 3 days before the examination. On the day of examination, bring the glucose powder, cup, stirrer (or glucose water prepared at home), and the blood test form which you previously collected from our hospital. It is necessary to draw your fasting plasma glucose before drinking the sugar water.
2. If the pregnant woman throws up while drinking the sugar water or waiting for blood drawing, please inform the medical examiner at the counter.
3. Please take a rest while waiting for blood drawing. Do not eat, smoke, or move around.
4. A report will be issued in 1-2 hours after the third blood draw. You can consult with the doctor during the return visit.
