Psychiatric Day Wards 帶您認識精神科日間病房

Brief introduction

The day ward is an important psychiatric rehabilitation unit for patients with chronic and stable mental illness who come to the hospital for treatment during the day from Monday to Friday, and return to their residence at night and on weekdays. In order to promote the return of psychiatric patients to society, the day ward will arrange diversified rehabilitation activities to assist patients.

Treatment and function

  • For patients who are in acute hospitalization and are ready to leave hospital when their condition improves, day ward treatment can assist them to deal with the difficulties they encounter in the process of returning to society, which can extend the effect of full-day hospitalization and even shorten the number of days of full-day hospitalization.
  • The day ward provides a variety of treatment methods to avoid or improve the symptoms of avolition, social withdrawal and deterioration of self-care ability, enhance the social skills and occupational functions of patients, and achieve the goal of self-care and independent living.

Facilities

With semi-open management, the wards are equipped with an activity room, evaluation room, meeting room, living room, housework training room, group therapy room, occupational therapy room, audiovisual room, and a variety of functional treatment, fitness and recreational facilities, which are sufficient to provide various therapeutic activities.

Medical team and treatment activities

To provide comprehensive rehabilitation treatment, the medical team consists of physicians, nurses, clinical psychologists, functional therapists and social workers. The following activities are arranged to achieve the purpose of treatment:

4. Occupational therapy.

Patients admitted to day wards

  • Psychiatric patients aged 16 years or older.
  • Patients with stable condition, basic self-care ability, continuous participation in day ward treatment activities and compliance with ward rules.
  • Those who have therapeutic motivation and can take medicine cooperatively.
  • Those who can go to the hospital or come home by themselves or accompanied by their family members.
  • Those with no major physical diseases.

Medical payment for day wards

All are covered by the National Health Insurance program. Patients holding a major illness/injury certificate can be exempted from part of the burden.

In-patient assessment processes and assessment items in day wards

After screening by outpatient doctors, the patient is referred to the day ward. After evaluation by the medical team of the day ward that the patient is suitable for hospitalization and the family agrees to cooperate with the treatment, the patient may apply for trial admission to the day ward, and their participation would be observed before they are formally hospitalized.

Assessment items include:

  • Physician evaluation.
  • Psychological evaluation.
  • Occupational evaluation
  • Family evaluation.

Day ward trial admission assessment

  • Objective: To evaluate patients' motivation and adaptability to hospital admission, and to assess weekly whether they are suitable for formal hospitalization.
  • Content: Evaluate the patient's trainability and adaptability to environment, and evaluate the patient's compatibility and stability with family members. Record the patient's condition every day on the day ward trial admission evaluation form.
