Precautionsafter receiving Bariatric Surgery 代謝減重手術後衛教

  • Human’s digestive system serves the functions such as storage, stir, grind, and digest food and sends the chyme into the small intestine slowly for digestion and absorption. The volume of the stomach gets smaller after receiving surgery; thus, patients will adjust their diet in both quality and quantity to reduce the symptoms.
  • In addition, we care patients’ recovery progress very much after the surgery. So if you have any of the following symptoms within few months after the surgery, please contact us any time:

Fever

Fever usually caused by the atelectasis which is due to the anesthesia. Please walk more than often, take deep breath and cough and do not lie on the bed all day. Please contact us if you don’t bring down the fever.

  • Normal ear temperature: 35.7-37.5 °C
  • Normal underarm temperature: 35.3-37.1 °C
  • Normal oral temperature: 35.9-37.6 °C
  • Normal anal temperature: 36.0-37.9°C

Abdomen Pain

  • Topical pain in the wound is normal after receiving surgery. Please contact us When the pain expands from the wound, you think gastric pouch ruptures or gastric intussusception occursand you think leakage occurs.

Blood in the Stool

  • Blood in stool usually comes from diseases in the lower section of the small intestine, large intestine or anus, mostly in rectum and anus. When esophagus, stomach, duodenum or proximal small intestine has rapid hemorrhage, it is possible to have bright red blood in stool. If there's not much bleeding, the stool is dark.

Diarrhea

After receiving bypass surgery, the food in the stomach goes through the digestive system faster.

  • Reduce the intake of fatty foods.
  • Do not drink liquids during meals. Rest for 30 minutes to an hour after meals to prevent foods from entering into the intestines too fast and stimulate intestinal peristalsis.

Bloating

The room for food is smaller; thus, it is easily to have upper abdomen bloating after meals.

  • Chew slowly and eat lessbut frequent meals.
  • Consume mild foods that are easily to be digested.
  • Reduce sweets and foods that create gas, such as beans, onions, potatoes, sticky rice, and soda.

Vomiting

  • Vomiting might occur when eat fast or too much due to the small amount of the stomach.
  • Please chew slowly and eat less but frequently.

Tips for Caring the Wound

  • The wound is covered with waterproof glue and dressing. Keep the dressing dry and do not need change dressing. Taking off the dressing in a week after being discharged from the hospital. Waterproof glue will come off by itself.
  • After taking off the dressing, using a Q-tip to dip in saline solution to cleanse the belly button carefully and the surrounding area after the shower for a week. Please keep the wound dry after cleansing.
