Classification of the treatment drugs

• Control drugs (preventive drugs)

Refers to drugs that can reduce inflammation of bronchial mucosa, including steroids, leukotriene receptor antagonists, sustained-release theophylline agents, and long-acting β2-agonists.

• Reliever medication (bronchodilators)

Including short-acting β2-agonists, anticholinergic agents, theophylline agents, and so on.

Selection of inhalation dosage forms

Different inhalation dosage forms can achieve different therapeutic effects due to patients' skills and methods. In order to ensure the therapeutic effect, the inhalation dosage forms suitable for patients' conditions are given.

• Metered-dose inhaler (MDI): Hand-mouth coordination, slow and deep breath, with an assistant chamber, can help complete inhalation.
• Dry powder inhaler (DPI): can be used in children over 6 years of age and adults. It requires fast and deep breath (inhalation flow of over 30 l/min) to successfully inhale the drug.
• Nebulizer: used in children under 2 years old, elderly people, patients with respiratory deterioration who cannot use the DPI or MDI.
