Screening for Five Major Cancers: Pap Smears 五大癌篩檢:子宮頸抹片檢查說明

2024/12/24

The Papanicolaou test (abbreviated as Pap test, also known as Pap smear) is the best way to prevent cervical cancer. It can show the possibility of infection, inflammation, abnormal cells or cancer in the cervix.

The test is performed by collecting from the vagina the secretions containing exfoliated cells from the cervix. After the smears are stained, suspicious cancer cells can be detected through a microscope. Once the lesion is found, a colposcopy and cervical biopsy can be performed to establish the diagnosis.
