Description of the Medical Device

Deep brain stimulation therapy implants precision electrode into the target areas on both sides of the deep areas of the brain for long-term high frequency electrical stimulation to regulate the abnormal activity messages in the brain to control motor symptoms.

When to Use

Mostly used for Parkinson’s disease symptoms, including trembling, stiffness, tardy motions, essential tremor, and amyotonia.

Possible Side Effects

• Vision impairment, 2.5% of incidence rate.
• One side hemiplegia, 1% of incidence rate.
• Speech difficulty, 8% of incidence rate, mostly temporary.
• Bacterial infection, inflammation, 1% of incidence rate.
• Epilepsy, 1% of incidence rate.
• Intracranial hemorrhage, 1% of incidence rate.
• Hypothalamus damages, 1% of incidence rate.

Post Surgery Care

• Change the dressings on the wound regularly and keep the wound dry.
• Consult with your physician or technicians about stimulator adjustment and periodical follow-ups before you are discharged from the hospital.
