Winter is the recurring season for allergic rhinitis, asthma and other diseases, particularly during cold snap. Not only do patients with asthma have higher frequency of recurrence but people with allergies often have sneezes, running nose and nasal congestion in the morning.
San Jiu Tian in Chinese refers to the three ninth days after winter solstice each year and also the coldest days of the year, commonly known as “cold days on the three ninths” and “Three ninths of winter solstice are cold as ice.” This period is also the recurring season for respiratory diseases.
“San Jiu Tian Moxibustion Therapy” and “San Fu Tian Moxibustion Therapy” both belong to “Tian Moxibustion” or “Seasonal Moxibustion” for acupuncture point dressing therapy; namely using Chinese herbal medicine with “hot properties” such as white mustard seed, Asarum sieboldii, Euphorbia kansui, Artemisia argyi, Corydalis yanhusuo and other substances to prepare into external application and apply to the specific acupuncture points of the human body. The application will cure and prevent diseases, while the differentiation lies on the treatment schedule for the former is between winter solstice and cold weather and the latter is carried out between summer solstice and hot weather.
According to the “man-university relation” theory of Chinese medicine, the period between winter solstice and summer solstice is the turning point for offsetting Ying and Yang of Nature, where human correspond with Nature and the alteration of season has the most impact on the human body as well as the time for specific diseases to recur. “San Jiu Tian Moxibustion” and “San Fu Tian Moxibustion” are applied during these two seasons to stimulate the specific acupuncture points of the body through acupuncture-point dressing, which will support the vital energy of human body, stimulate the human body with response capacity, and thereby accomplishing disease prevention and health care.
“San Jiu Tian Moxibustion Therapy” begins after winter solstice and shall apply the dressing to the acupuncture point every 9 days. The session takes about 3 dressings in general. Children or adults who are patients of asthma, bronchitis or allergic rhinitis or those with weak physique susceptible for repeated cold, may improve their body condition and symptoms through acupuncture point dressing to boost immunity and lower frequency of getting a cold.
It is commonly said that “Coldest at Three Ninth Days, Three Hottest Days.” If patients with allergic diseases have already accepted “San Fu Tian Moxibustion Therapy” in the summer, they are advised to take another opportunity to adjust their physique in the cold winder by continue taking “San Jiu Tian Moxibustion Therapy” in order to affirm the effect of San Fu Tian Moxibustion Therapy for the summer through the winter.
