- Dentures are a tool to assist in chewing and restore aesthetics. It cannot replace natural teeth.
- Pain, discomfort or ulcer usually occurs during the initial stage of wearing removable dentures. Doctors will arrange several examinations and adjustments. Please return to the clinic according to the appointment time. If you still have any discomfort, please make an appointment with your doctor in advance to allow enough time for denture adjustment.
- First-time denture wearers may feel slightly impaired in speaking and occasionally increased saliva secretion due to the foreign body sensation in the mouth, but after adaptation, it will be improved.
- Patients who use removable dentures should change their chewing patterns and eating habits. First, learn to chew with both sides of your teeth to stabilize your dentures. Start with small pieces of food that are crispy, soft but not tough and sticky. Avoid foods that have a lot of fiber and are not easily worn down.
- Make sure to clean the denture after each meal, including using a soft toothbrush and water, but toothpaste or any detergent not required. Because food residue is likely to stick in the space between the removable denture and the natural teeth, the remaining teeth in the mouth should also be cleaned after meals, so as to avoid tooth decay or periodontal disease.
- Do not wear dentures while sleeping in order to let the oral tissue to rest and recover. Before going to bed, please clean the removable dentures and put them into a container filled with cold water to prevent the denture from deforming due to dryness.
- The oral tissue condition will change with time, and the alveolar bone will continue to atrophy year by year, so the removable denture should be examined and adjusted regularly at least every 6 months or annually, rebasing or a new set of dentures should be made if necessary.
