Goal
Gastrectomy patients may experience sweating, general weakness, dizziness, palpitations, abdominal pain, and diarrhea 10-15 minutes after they have a meal. This is due to food moving rapidly through their gastrointestinal tract.
General Principles
- Eat smaller meals 5-6 times a day, chew food really well and slow down eating speed.
- Avoid sweet foods or foods containing alcohol, such as cake, honey, juice, and liquor.
- Eat foods containing appropriate amount of fibers, fat and high protein,which are served at a moderate temperature.
- Seperate liquid and solid food, wait 30 to 60 minutes after a meal before drinking.
- Take a semi-Fowler's position while eating, and lie down for 30 minutes after meals.
