The Neonatal Intensive Care Unit in CMUH is equipped with modern and integrated instruments. When your baby is admitted to our unit, individual management for each case will be provided upon the baby’s needs. Thus, we would like to show you the equipment and instruments in our unit.
The endotracheal tube
The endotracheal tube will be inserted from the mouth to the tracheal if the baby can’t breathe on its own or have abnormal respiration pattern which may lead to respiratory failure.
The nasogastric tube
This is a tube inserted from the mouth or nose to the stomach for feeding or to drain out air from the stomach.
The arterial-line
When either frequent blood sampling or continuing monitor of the blood pressure is needed because of the unstable condition, arterial line will be set from peripheral artery or umbilical artery.
The intravascular catheter
There are peripheral intravenous lines, central venous lines, and umbilical vein inserted lines. Medication, fluid, electrolyte, and nutrition will be provided via the IV line.
The EKG monitor
Three pieces of sensor will be adhesive to the baby and the sensor will be connected to the monitor that looks like a computer to monitor the baby’s heart rate and respiration rate.
The Nasal CPAP
When the baby can’t have effect respiration to keep the opening of the alveolar, nasal CPAP will be applied .It will be set on the baby’s nose and connected to the ventilator for respiration support.
The oximeter
A lightening red sensor will be attached to the baby’s palm or sole to sense the saturation of oxygenation in the blood.
The IV pumps
The fluid that enters the baby’s body is exactly controlled by the IV pump.
The incubator
Provide thermal regulated environment for the baby on the basis of the baby’s body weight and ability of thermal regulation.
The humidified incubator
Provided to the ELBW( <1000 g ) in the first 7 days after birth to decrease the insensible water loss and temperature loss by humidification.
