2024/1/31

Fentanyl Transdermal Patch is a release extended pain patch containing Fentanyl ingredient and classified as Schedule II drug. Fentanyl Transdermal Patch offers 72-hour extended medication and non-invasive administration path that can improve the living quality of patients. It can achieve pain relief effect for patients with chronic and refractory heavy pain.

Fentanyl is the main ingredient of Fentanyl Transdermal Patch and a strong-opioid analgesic with medicinal intensity 80-100 times that of morphine. Moreover, due to the narrow therapeutic window, trace excess could strongly depress inhalation and lead to mortality. Hence such medicine must be carefully administered.

Applications

  • Use water to wipe the skin area for the patch and apply the patch after the skin is dry. Do not use soap to wash as the skin could become more sensitive.
  • For use, remove the patch and the plastic film (adhesive).  Apply the patch to an applicable area (usually chest or abdomen or upper arm) and press with your palm for 30 seconds. Make sure the patch is adhered well, particularly the edge of the patch.
  • Adhere the patch onto the front chest, back, upper arm, or legs where the patch will not easily detach due to activities.  In case the patch still falls off, use a supporting tape for reinforced adhesion.
  • Use each patch for three days. Tear off the old patch and fold the side to place into the original package. Do not discard. Record the date of adhesion and removal, time and name of administrator.

Precautions

  • On the first day of use, continue using the previous painkiller because the patch will produce stable effect starting from the second day on. For additional supplements of other pain killers, physician evaluation is required to add ½~1/3 of the original oral analgesics.
  • Please adhere to a different area for each patch to reduce skin discomfort. Apply to the same area after a few days.
  • The patient can take shower but do not dampen the patch to avoid the patch from falling off. Reapply a new patch in case the original patch falls off.  Avoid hot bath, hot spring, nor keep the patch in direct contact with heat, such as heat blanket.
  • Please follow the physician‘s instruction for drug administration accordingly. Do not reduce or increase drug use without instruction. Please retain the used patch temporarily and submit to the hospital on your next visit for your new medication.
  • Side effects are uncommon but dry mouth, constipation, nausea, and skin rush could still occur. If the symptoms do not improve or even deteriorate, contact with the doctor immediately.
