Single Eyelid
The eyes of each person can be designed into inner type or outer type, according to the shape of the eyelid. The main rule is to fix the eyelid on the levator muscle aponeurosis or palpebral cartilage (tarsal plate). The location of double eyelid in general is between 5mm to 7mm from the eyelash and it takes at least three months to swelling to be relieved. The surgery is divided into open or suture methol.
Dermatochalasis
Severe dermatochalasis could affect the vision, and excise excess eyelid skin under local anesthesia will restore the youthful appearance. It takes about 1 month to 3 months for swelling to be relieved.
Protruding Eye Bags
The upper eyelid comes with two fat pads while the lower eyelid comes with three. The formation is related to age and genetics. The eye fat pads of upper eyelid can be removed by cutting along the upper eyelid fold while the fat pads of lower eyelid can be removed by incising the area 2mm under the eyelash or upon the conjunctiva.
Trichiasis
The eyelash on the upper eyelid in general is aligned in three clusters while the lower eyelid consists of single cluster. Some patients have more cluster eyelashes that are in different height and are messy, leading to chronic conjunctivitis or tear overspill. The upper eyelid can be corrected through double eyelid surgery while the lower eyelid can be corrected by cutting excess skin,or flipping the eyelids outward using muscle flap, depending on the situation. Eyelash removal can only treat the symptoms temporarily but could not cure from the root.
Ptosis
The cause of Ptosis is more complex, commonly known as drooping eyelids and divided into congenital and acquired. Congenital can be further divided into single side or double side drooping. The levator muscle must be first evaluated and the treatment method include the levator muscle resection or hanging upper eyelid on the upper frontal muscle using aponeurosis.
Myasthenia Gravis will also cause ptosis and will require medicinal or surgical treatment.
The cause of acquired ptosis includes traumatic levator muscle rupture, nerve palsy and eye tumor. Different treatment is adopted based on the cause of formation.
