Joung-Liang Lan

Consultant / Professor
Prof. Chung-Liang Lan was the first Taiwan rheumatology fellow trained at the Johns Hopkins Medical Center in the United States in 1970s. With over 50 years of professional experience, he was honored with the Master Award by the Taiwan Rheumatology Association in 2013 and the Asia Pacific League of Associations for Rheumatology (APLAR) in 2017. He also served as the President of the Taiwan College of Rheumatology (TCR) from 2009 to 2011.Currently, he serves as an Advisor to the Superintendent's Office at China Medical University Hospital and as a Chair Professor at China Medical University. His research areas include autoimmune diseases (focus on SLE and RA) and connective tissue diseases complicated by interstitial lung disease. His research team focuses primarily on developing novel diagnostic markers and prognostic markers for the progression of interstitial lung disease. Over the past 40 years, he has served as the principal investigator for at least 80 multinational clinical trials for new drugs (Phases I-III), with his patient enrollment numbers and trial quality frequently ranking at the top globally.

Der-Yuan Chen

Vice Superintendent / Professor
Prof. Chen is the Vice Dean of the Department of Medicine at CMUH and former Vice Superintendent and Director of the Center (2017–2025), is among Taiwan's most influential rheumatologists. Dr. Der-Yuan Chen is a specialist in allergy, immunology, and rheumatology with over 40 years of professional experience. He was honored with the Master Award by the Taiwan Rheumatology Association (2023) and the Asia Pacific League of Associations for Rheumatology (2024), and he previously served as the President of the TCR (2014–2016). He currently serves as the Vice Superintendent and the Director of the Rheumatology and Immunology Center at China Medical University Hospital. His research areas include the immunopathogenesis of autoimmune diseases (such as SLE and RA) and autoinflammatory diseases (AOSD), the association between infection and immune inflammation, and the safety of targeted therapies. In recognition of his outstanding achievements in SLE research, he received the Academic Research Award from Taiwan's Society of Immunology and participated in formulating the Asia-Pacific recommendations for the management of SLE (Lancet Rheumatology, 2022). His exceptional research on AOSD has yielded 35 SCI papers that have been frequently cited in rheumatology textbooks, earning him the prestigious distinction of being named among the World's Top 2% Scientists in 2020,2021,2024 and 2025. As of 2024, he has published 262 SCI journal papers, accumulating over 11,000 citations.

Yi-Hsing Chen

Vice Superintendent / Professor
Prof. Yi-Hsing Chen is the present Vice-superintendent of the Center at CMUH. After earning her MD from China Medical University in 1991 and completing her residency and fellowship at Taichung Veterans General Hospital, Dr. Chen pursued her PhD in Molecular Allergology at Tunghai University (2004-2009). She enhanced her expertise as a visiting scientist at Johns Hopkins Asthma and Allergy Center (2002-2003) and through Harvard Medical School's Program for Leading Innovations in Health Care and Education in 2008.Dr. Chen has held significant leadership positions, including Director of the Division of Allergy, Immunology & Rheumatology at Taichung Veterans' General Hospital (2013-2019) , Deputy Director of the Department of Internal Medicine (2019-2024) and Vice-Superintendent of Center of Rheumatology and Immunology of China Medical University (2025 till present). She currently serves as an Executive Member on the Board of Directors for both the Chinese Society of Immunology and Taiwan College of Rheumatology. Her research contributions are extensive, with over 180 peer-reviewed publications focusing on autoimmune diseases, allergic disorders, and innovative treatments. Her pioneering work on biting midge allergies has resulted in three patents, including a needle-free patch vaccine. Dr. Chen's excellence has been recognized with numerous awards, including the 2021, 2022, 2023 and 2025 National Innovation Awards and being named among the Top 100 Best Physicians in Taiwan. She remains actively involved in clinical trials, serving as principal investigator for more than 100 global studies spanning all development phases.

Chung-Ming Huang

Consultant / Associate Professor
Dr. Chun-Ming Huang specializes in systemic lupus erythematosus, rheumatoid arthritis, ankylosing spondylitis, gout, Sjögren's syndrome, various rheumatic diseases, arthritis, autoimmune diseases (myositis, scleroderma, vasculitis, etc.), and other allergic diseases (urticaria, allergic rhinitis, asthma, etc.).For rheumatic and autoimmune diseases, early diagnosis and early appropriate treatment are crucial. Dr. Huang is particularly highly skilled in the diagnosis, treatment, and care of rheumatoid arthritis, systemic lupus erythematosus, and ankylosing spondylitis. He has accumulated years of clinical experience and research, and has published over 80 papers in international rheumatology journals.

Gregory J Tsay

Consultant / Professor
Prof. Tsay is Director of the Immunology Research and Development Center at CMUH and a former President of both the Taiwan Rheumatology Association and the Taiwan Society of Immunology, leads our diagnostic-innovation efforts. His team developed the precision IgG anti-BR1 ELISA—a diagnostic kit that substantially improves sensitivity in rheumatoid arthritis patients who test negative for rheumatoid factor and anti-CCP antibodies, recognized by Taiwan's 2022 Future Tech Award and 2024 National Innovation Award.

Chien-Chung Huang

Director of Rheumatology / Associate Professor
Dr. Huang is the present Director of Rheumatology of the Center. Dr. Chien-Chung Huang previously received comprehensive training in internal medicine and subspecialty training in allergy, immunology, and rheumatology at Taichung Veterans General Hospital. He was honored with both hospital-level and ministry-level awards for excellence in teaching. After returning to the China Medical University Hospital, he applied his professional expertise to patient care, hoping that all patients could recover from their illnesses and return to normal life. In recognition of his dedication, he was awarded the Outstanding Attending Physician Award in both 2021 and 2024.

Jiunn-Horng Chen

Attending Physician / Professor
Prof. Chun-Hung Chen specializes in rheumatic and arthritic diseases, including: autoimmune diseases (lupus erythematosus, Sjögren's syndrome, dermatomyositis, scleroderma) and various types of arthritis (rheumatoid arthritis, ankylosing spondylitis, gout, osteoarthritis, fibromyalgia, osteoporosis).Dr. Chen previously served as a Clinical Research Fellow in the Division of Rheumatology, Department of Medicine at the University of British Columbia (UBC) in Canada, and as the Vice President of the British Columbia Acupuncture and Traditional Chinese Medicine Association. In recent years, Dr. Chen has published research on diseases regarding gout, fibromyalgia, and rheumatoid arthritis in prominent international rheumatology journals, including Arthritis & Rheumatology, Annals of the Rheumatic Diseases, and The Journal of Rheumatology. Consequently, he participated in the formulation of the 2015 global gout diagnostic and classification criteria and the 2013 Taiwan Gout Guidelines, and has collaborated with the Taiwan Fibromyalgia Advisory Board to promote health education regarding fibromyalgia.

Po-Hao Huang

Attending Physician
Dr. Po-Hao Huang received comprehensive training in Internal Medicine and subspecialty fellowship training in Rheumatology and Immunology at our hospital. He specializes in a variety of rheumatic diseases, such as systemic lupus erythematosus, rheumatoid arthritis, ankylosing spondylitis, and gout. He also has specialized expertise in soft tissue ultrasound, a powerful diagnostic tool for examining joints and soft tissues. Furthermore, Dr. Huang is highly passionate about medical education. He is currently a qualified PGY (Post-Graduate Year) mentor and a certified national OSCE (Objective Structured Clinical Examination) examiner, and currently responsible as an educational facilitator for senior medical students.

Wei-Jhe Hong

Attending Physician
Dr. Wei-Che Hung received comprehensive training in Internal Medicine, as well as subspecialty training in Allergy, Immunology, and Rheumatology at Changhua Christian Hospital. He is also a specialist in osteoporosis. Dr. Hung has long been dedicated to the research and treatment of inflammatory arthritis, including rheumatoid arthritis, psoriatic arthritis, and ankylosing spondylitis. Furthermore, he actively participates and is deeply involved in international conferences and clinical research related to inflammatory arthritis.

Kai-Jieh Yeo

Attending Physician
Dr. Yeo Kai-Jieh, a EULAR Level 2 certified musculoskeletal ultrasonographer and qualified MSUS instructor who anchors our imaging program. After graduating, Dr. Kai-Chieh Yang received comprehensive specialty training in internal medicine, as well as subspecialty training in allergy, immunology, and rheumatology at Chung Shan Medical University Hospital. He earned the prestigious honor of achieving the top score in his cohort's rheumatology board examination, yet he never became complacent. Because of his dedicated patient care and deep passion for teaching, he has been recognized as the Best Teaching Attending Physician at Chung Shan Medical University Hospital for seven consecutive years.
