From 2006 to 2010, a total of 744 microscopic flap reconstruction surgeries were conducted by the department, whereas the success rate was 96%.
The microsurgery surgical achievements in the department are unrivaled in the world and create a new breakthrough in the difficult microsurgical reconstruction, such as the reconstruction of the sounder (pharyngeal throat) with autologous intestine, reconstruction of the vagina with the large intestine, reconstruction of the cervix with the cecum, reconstruction of many organs (esophagus, ureter and urethra), limb reconstruction, reconstruction of the head and neck and reconstruction of lymphoid tissue.
Chen Hongji as the Director of the Cosmetic Surgery Department also has his special ideas on treatment of lymphedema. Depending on the patient's severity, various surgical modalities, including modified Charlie's surgery, extensive subcutaneous lymphoid excision to preserve perforation of the blood vessel, and lymphoid tissue transplantation, are very effective in alleviating lymphedema in the patient's upper or lower extremities.
Director Chen Hongji has trained around 50 foreign doctors from the United States, Britain, Italy, Belgium, Brazil, Japan, Hong Kong, Singapore and South Korea.
