Transplant is the future of medical care. In recent years, organ transplant for the treatment of diseases has gradually developed in the medical environment in Taiwan. However, compared with transplant of other organs, lung transplant has been rare owing to the high difficulty of surgery and postoperative care. To take care of the patients' health, the Department of Chest Surgery in the Affiliated Hospital of China Medical University has devoted a great deal of manpower and resources for a long period of time to building a multidisciplinary and transdisciplinary medical team. In 2014, the department successfully completed several lung transplants. This has created a new era for the medical environment in Central Taiwan.
In addition to the success of lung transplants, the department has continued to improve the medical quality for patients with lung cancer and esophageal cancer. With our expertise in the minimally invasive thoracoscopic surgery, rich experience in clinical intensive care, and complete postoperative care and tracking, patients can not only experience a shorter recovery time, but also greatly reduce the pain caused by the operation.
In line with the mission as a pioneering medical center, the department also introduces the Da Vinci robotic arms that are the representative of modern medicine and high technology as a new option for patients. Esophageal cancer, lung cancer, and mediastinal tumor are now within the scope of the Da Vinci robotic arms in the department.
