Advantages of the Virtual NHI Card

• For the Public:
  1. No need to carry a physical card; authorization makes medical visits convenient and secure.
  2. Reduces contact risks during the pandemic.
• For Physicians:
  1. Shortens the time required to read NHI card data, enhancing clinic efficiency.
  2. Enables access to Virtual NHI Card information during telemedicine consultations.

Application Process for the Virtual NHI Card

1. Install the NHI Express App on Your Mobile Device

• If your mobile number is registered under your name, has an active mobile network, and is not a prepaid card, you can directly authenticate and log in.
• If the mobile number is not registered under your name, you will need to apply for the NHI Express App using a computer and a card reader.​

2. Open the NHI Express App and Apply for the Virtual NHI Card

→Before the application is fully reviewed, you can use a temporary Virtual NHI Card without a photo. This allows patients who do not have their physical NHI card with them to download the Virtual NHI Card immediately and register on the spot for instant use.
→Once the application is successfully reviewed, you will receive a notification, and your personal photo will be displayed on the Virtual NHI Card. 

Authorization for Virtual NHI Card for Caregivers

Both parties must apply for the Virtual NHI Card to enable authorization for use. Under the condition that the authorized individual has completed mobile device authentication and successfully applied for the Virtual NHI Card, the Virtual NHI Card can be authorized to multiple individuals simultaneously. Additionally, it is possible to receive authorization from multiple individuals at the same time.

Virtual NHI Card Usage Process

〈Check-in Method 1〉 Entrance Check-in Kiosk:

1. Open the Virtual NHI Card QR code on your mobile phone.
2. Scan the QR code using the scanner located at the bottom of the check-in kiosk.
3. Confirm the check-in information → Check-in completed.

〈Check-in Method 2〉 Clinic Door Check-in Kiosk:

1. Open your phone camera or the China Medical App to scan the clinic check-in QR code.
2. Confirm the check-in information → Check-in completed.

Using the Virtual NHI Card for Medical Consultations:

1. Inform the doctor and nurse that you will be using the Virtual NHI Card.
2. Open the Virtual NHI Card QR code screen on your mobile phone.
3. Provide authorization and consent.

Achievements

• November 22, 2023: Participated in an experience-sharing interview on the use of the Virtual NHI Card, organized by the National Health Insurance Administration (NHIA) and the NTU research team.
