What is the best time to place tracheobronchial stent?
- Sick children with tracheal stenosis or tracheomalacia can be placed with tracheobronchial stent to broaden the narrowingarea, thereby improving the respiratory function.
What are the side effects after placing the stent?
- Increase the tracheal mucus, induce the mucus impaction.
- Proliferation of granulation or susceptible to infection.
The abovementioned conditions can be treated with interventional bronchoscopic method, including gripping, laser, and dilation.
What are the post-operative care instructions for stent placement?
- Please follow the physician instruction after the interventional bronchoscopy for administration (or inhalation) of medicine and regularly outpatient department (OPD) follow-up.
- Regular chest care and routine exercises will not damage the stent.
- If the patient had dyspnea or any uncomfortable feeling, contact with the physician and revisit at any time (ER or OPD).
