Ganglion cyst is a benign tumor common seen around wrist. It is usually discovered by accident and sometimes gets bigger with pain or soreness. Ganglion cyst that grows in wrist may often cause pain in the wrist. The discomfort is particularly obvious when moving the joint.
Most people do not have any symptoms other than some compressed pain that comes and goes. Ganglion cyst is related to excessive activity in wrist. However, the causes are still not clear. Ganglion cyst is basically tenosynovitis and may occur anywhere in the body with hand the most common.
Ganglion cyst is a benign tumor without any complication other than a little bit of discomfort. Therefore, aggressive treatment is not required as long as there is no severe discomfort or limited mobility.
However, further treatment is recommended if the pain or the size of cyst influences hand functions. The content of the cyst can be extracted clinically with a needle. The content is usually a gel-like fluid. The cyst can also be squeezed. But these methods can only make the cyst disappear for a period of time with high recurrence.
The best treatment is to surgically remove the cyst along with the synovium. The incomplete synovectomy may lead to recurrence.
