Emergency Department-Precautions for Fever Patients 急診—發燒病人之注意事項

  • Pay attention to whether there are other symptoms (persistent neck pain, vomiting, chest pain, wheezing, body rash...), which is more important than temperature.
  • Remove extra coverings (except when having chills).
  • Sleep on an ice pillow, water pillow, or take a warm bath. Avoid using alcohol to wipe down the fever.
  • Air-conditioning can be used in summer, and the room temperature can be maintained at around 22 ~ 26 degrees, but the vent should not be aimed toward patient.
  • Drink plenty of fluids. Adults can drink 100 cc per hour and take the medicine under doctor΄s order.
  • Fever-reducing drugs can be used every 4-6 hours if the ear temperature is above 38.5 ℃, and the dosage should be used according to doctor's advice.
  • If the body temperature drops too low (ear temperature below 36 ℃), stop giving fever reducer, give glucose water or warm water, put on clothes , cover up and send to a doctor immediately.
  • Those with persistent high fever or convulsions, persistent breathing difficulties, unconsciousness, fever that is more frequent, poor mobility, rashes, red spots or bleeding tendencies, should be immediately sent to a doctor for examination.
