Nutrition is the foundation of health, while food is the source of nutrition

Our bodies need nutrients in food to sustain life. These nutrients are carbohydrates, fats, proteins, vitamins and minerals. The physical strength of daily activities comes from the calories produced by carbohydrates and fats.

Protein is the essential raw material for human growth and metabolism. Vitamins and minerals can regulate physiological functions.

Nutritional value of food

The nutritional value of food depends on the type and quantity of nutrients contained in the food. Most foods contain not only one nutrient, but different nutrients in different foods.

Fresh food contains more nutrients than processed food

Fresh food contains more nutrients than processed food, because the process could  lead to loss of nutrients.

The choice of each kind of food should be changed from time to time. It is not appropriate to eat the same kind of food every meal. It is better to use vegetable oil for cooking oil and pay attention to its usage.

Function of nutrients

  • Supply energy: by carbohydrates, fats and oils, and proteins, which are collectively called "calorie nutrients."
  • Construct, maintain and repair tissues: proteins, lipids and minerals such as calcium and phosphorus.
  • Regulate metabolism and physiological functions: vitamins, minerals, essential fatty acids, etc.
