When to do Wet Wraps
It is recommended to do wet wraps after bath/shower and before bedtime. Wet wraps during sleep can reduce skin damage due to avoiding scratching and relieving itching.
Benefits of Wet-Wrap Therapy
- Reduce skin damage due to avoiding scratching.
- Increase the absorption of lotion and medicine.
- Enhance skin’s moisturizing ability.
- Enhance skin restore ability.
- Lower skin temperature, which could contract blood vessel to relieve itch.
Steps for Wet Wraps
- Materials for Wet Wraps: clean water, ointment, scissors, container, lotion, and bandage.
- Give the child a bath just with water and tap dry with a towel. Do not dry completely, but leave some water on the body.
- Cut the bandage to the length of limbs. Cut two sections of bandages for each area.
- Apply either Chinese medicine ointment or Western medicine ointment on the skin lesion according to doctor’s instruction.
- Apply a generous amount of moisturizer, adjusting the amount to the need of the skin. Choose oily moisturizer for drier skin.
- Soak one of the bandages in water and gently wring till not dripping. Wrap the bandage on the skin lesion (adjust water temperature to the child’s comfort in the winter).
- Wrap the dry bandage over the damp one.
- Apply moisturizer again after taking off the bandages.
- Cut two sections of bandages for the skin lesion.
- Apply ointment on the lesion according to doctor’s instruction.
- Put moisturizer on the rest of the area.
- Soak one of the bandages in warm water.
- Wring the bandage till not dripping and wrap it on the skin lesion.
- Wrap the dry bandage over the damp one.
- Leave it on for sleep.
- Put on moisturizer again after taking off the bandages.
