Dietary Principles for Cancer Prevention 防癌飲食原則

Goal

  1. Prevent cancer through correct eating habits and balanced intake of various foods.
  2. Reduce occurrence of cancer caused by improper diet habit and life style.

Object

General population.

General Principle

  1. Pay attention to the body weight change

Ideal body weight(IBW)=height2(m)2 × 22

Normal weight=IBW ± 10% Balance diet

  1. Intake quality nutrients from six types of natural foods.
    1. Dairy foods 1-2 cups/day

It provides calcium, protein and rich vitamins, such as yogurt, fresh milk. Or consume lactose-free milk to reduce lactose intolerance.

  1. Whole grains and miscellaneous grain crops: 3-4 servings per meal

It is better to choose unrefined or unprocessed ingredients like rice, noodles and toast made of whole wheat and oatmeal which provide carbohydrates and vitamin B.

  1. Beans, fish, eggs and meat: 2-3 servings a meal

Opt for low-fat meat, seafood like deep sea fish and oysters, and soybean products to provide proteins needed for tissue repair and reduced infection.

  1. Vegetable:

Every type of vegetable contains several kinds of anticancer ingredients, mineral substances, and multivitamins like vitamin A and C which promote intestine digestion and reduce contact between carcinogen and intestinal tract. Intake dark green vegetable and mustard family vegetables like green cauliflower, cabbage mustard, tomato, onion, garlic, shiitake mushroom and seaweed every day.

  1. Fruit: 2 serving a day.

It provides fiber and vitamin C that can reduce the occurrence of stomach cancer, esophageal cancer, also stop nitrite and amines from turning into carcinogen. Intake of guava, orange, apple, and cherry is highly recommended.

  1. Oil: 2-3 teaspoon a day

Oil can provide calorie and help absorb fat soluble vitamin A, D, E, and K. You can choose vegetable oil such as olive, peanut, and consume appropriate amount of nuts such as walnuts, almonds. Avoid fried foods.

  1. Avoid carcinogenic food intake:
  1. Do not eat moldy grains, soybeans or corn containing aflatoxins.
  2. During the process of salt smoking and baking, meat oil dripping into burning coal could elicit multi-link aromatic hydrocarbon carcinogens which are lethal to our life.
  3. Carefully select food with addictives, choose reputable brands, and reduce the usage amount.
  1. Maintain a regular life style: Please exercise every day, avoid staying up late, maintain a happy mood, and consume enough water, at least about 1,500 ~ 2,000 c.c., to maintain normal metabolism and prevent constipation.
